Established in 2020, Rein Records is the student-run record label at the University of New Haven. Forming the backbone of a diverse music community in and around West Haven, Connecticut, our goal is to give our artists the reins to control their careers. Our team strives towards developing up-and-coming talent and helping them follow their dreams. Rein Records also offers the necessary hands-on experience for each team member to immerse themselves in the music industry. We are eager to shine the spotlight on our brilliant musicians and share their music with the rest of the world.
The University of New Haven, founded on the Yale campus in 1920, is a private, coeducational university that has been recognized by The Princeton Review and U.S. News & World Report for academic excellence. Located between New York City and Boston in the shoreline city of West Haven, CT, the University is a diverse and vibrant community of more than 7,500 students from across the globe.
Mark Tavern teaches the Record Label course and advises Rein Records. He is an educator, artist manager, consultant, administrator, and arts advocate with more than twenty-five years of music business experience. In addition to running his own management company, he currently teaches Music Business at the University of New Haven and previously at LaGuardia Community College/The City University of New York, and at the Institute of Audio Research. Prior to 2012, he worked at major record companies including Universal Music Group, SONY Music Entertainment, and BMG Entertainment, where as an A&R Administrator with Island Records, Def Jam Recordings, RCA Records, and RCA Victor, he took part in more than 200 recordings, a dozen Broadway cast albums, and numerous reissue projects, including the GRAMMY®-winning 24-CD box set, The Duke Ellington Centennial Edition. He is a graduate of St. Lawrence University and had his first job as an intern at Glimmerglass Opera, where he later became Company Manager.
